What's in a name!

Butch O'Hare

Al Capone   Easy Eddie
Monument at O'Hare Airport
I have'nt been blogging very long and my blog posts have basically been about my pictures with a small amount of text but when I read this I just had to pass it along. It might be a little long for some of you so if you don't want to read it I understant but it really is a very interesting bit of history trivia that you just might say "WOW" I did'nt know that. It came to me with the "Two Stories BOTH TRUE and worth reading caption but I like to call it "What's In A Name." So, here goes!
STORY NUMBER ONE

Many years ago, Al Capone virtually owned Chicago. Capone wasn't  famous for anything heroic. He was for enmeshing the windy city in everything  from bootlegged boozed and prostitution to murder. Capone had a lawyer nicknamed " Easy Eddie." He was Capone's lawyer for a good reason. Eddie was very good! In fact, Eddie's skill at legal maneuvering kept Big Al out of jail for a long time. To show his appreciation, Capone paid him very well. Not only was the money big, but Eddie got special dividends as well. For instance, he and his family occupied a fenced-in mansion with live in help and all of the conveniences of the day. The estate was so large that it filled an entire Chicago city block! Eddie lived the high life of the Chicago mob and gave little consideration to the atrocity that went on around him.
Eddie did have one soft spot, however. He had a son that he loved dearly. Eddie saw to it that his young son had clothes, cars, and a good education. Nothing was withheld. Price was no object. And, despite his involvement with organized crime, Eddie even tried to teach him right from wrong. Eddie wanted him to be a better man than he was. Yet, with all his wealth and influence, there were two things he couldn't give his son; he couldn't pass on a good name or good example.

One day, Easy Eddie reached a difficult decision. Easy Eddie wanted to rectify wrongs he had done. He decided he would go to the authorities and tell the truth about Al "Scarface" Capone, clean up his tarnished name, and offer his son some semblance of integrity. To do this, he would have to testify against the mob and he knew that the cost would be great. So, he testified.

Within the year, Easy Eddie's life ended in a blaze of gun fire on a lonely Chicago Street. But in his eyes, he had given his son the greatest gift he had to offer at the greatest price he could ever pay.  Police removed from his pockets a rosary, a curcifix, a religious medallion and a poem clipped from a magazine. The poem read

"The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands of time will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. Live, love, toil with a will. Place no faith in time. For the clock may soon be still."

STORY NUMBER TWO

World war 2 produced many heros. One such man was Lieutent Commander Butch O'Hare. He was a fighter pilot assigned to the aircraft carrier Lexington in the South Pacific.
One day his entire squardon was sent on a mission. After he was airborne, he looked at his fuel gauge and realized that someone had forgotten to top off his tank. He would not have enough fuel to complete his  mission and get back to the fleet. As he was returning to the mother ship, he saw something that turned his blood cold; a squadron of Japanese aircraft was speeding its way toward the American fleet. The American fighters were gone on a sorte, and the fleet was all but defensless. He couldn't reach his squadron and bring them back in time to save the fleet. Nor could he warn the fleet of the approaching danger. There was only one thing to do. He must somehow divert them from the fleet. Laying aside all thoughts of personal safety, he dove into the formation of Japanese planes. Wing-mounted 50 caliber's blazed as he charged in, attacking one surprised enemy plane and than another. Butch wove in and out of the now broken formation and fired at as many planes as possible until all his ammunition was finally spent. Undaunted, he continued the assult. He dove at the planes, trying to clip a wing or tail in hopes of damaging as many enemy planes as possible, rendering them unfit to fly. Finally, the exasperated Japanese squadron took off in another direction.
Deeply relieved, Butch O'Hare and his tattered fighter limped back to the carrier.
Upon arrival, he reported in and related the event surrounding his return. The film from the gun camera mounted on his plane told the tale. It showed the extent of Butch's daring attempt to protect his fleet. He had, in fact, destroyed five enemy aircraft. This took place on February 20, 1942, and for that action Butch became the Navy's first Ace of W.W.II, and the first Naval Aviator to win the Medal of Honor.
A year later Butch was killed in aerial combat at the age of 29. His home town would not allow the memory of this WW II hero to fade, and today, O'Hare Airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man.
So, the next time you find yourself ant O'Hare International, give some thought to visiting Butch's memorial displaying his statue and his Medal of Honor. It's located between terminals 1 and 2.

So what do these two stories have to do with each other?

Butch O'Hare was "Easy Eddies's" son!

Is this not one of the coolest bits of history you have ever read?!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Sweet Polymer Clay Bunny

Hi all and happy Monday! It's hot and muggy here in the west valley of Arizona so I'm staying in as much as possible. As always, I have things to do around the house but I will always find time to play! I really enjoy my stamping and card making as well as my crafts for my etsy shop but I have gotten very interested in playing with polymer clay! Now don't laugh. Well,ok, you can laugh but being the very first one I've made  I think she's kinda cute. Don't know if I'll make them to sell, there kind of like my cards in that I make them just for the fun of it.
Would love to hear what you think of her!

I made these felt flowers

Sooo sweet!

Look at that cute face!

Look at that chubby belly!
Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog!

Vintage Tilda Cushion

Hi all and thanks for coming by my blog! Hope you're having a great day and an even better weekend! Can I tell you how HOT it is out here in Arizona? I think I could fry eggs on the sidewalk if I wanted. I mowed the lawn about 7:30 this morning and I thought I was going to die! I say to my hubby tell, me why we left the coast in California again?        Anyway...........I have something new I want to show you that I made a few days ago. I was inspired by Kylie of http://kylieskraftroom.blogspot.com/2011/05/pin-up-girl.html, thanks Kylie.Using white muslin fabric I stamped Tilda With Flower Pot  from the Butterfly Dreams Collection with rich cocoa from Memento Ink and colored her with copic markers. Sorry, I don' remember the colors I used. Now mind you, I don't consider myself a sewer person but this really was'nt hard to do. I had purchased some vintage type fabric and lace from Joann Fabrics and the little organza rosets behind the roses from WalMart. It comes in other colors and is sold by the roll. The bow at the top is jute, also from Joanns and sold by the roll. The flowers are from WO and the pearls from my stash. It is 7 inches long and 4 inches wide and stuffed with a polyester fiberfill. I was going to use her as a pin cushion but I can't bring myself to stick pins in her! I want to make more because I really like to way she turned out.
If you have the time, please let me know what you think of my new creation.
Hugs to all!
Judy K.

It's Been Along Time!

Tilda's just waiting for someone to come by and visit

She just loves her new dress and wants you to see it

Love this pink double ruffle ribbon!
Hi All! Gosh it's been sooo very long since I last posted. Alot of things going on in my life one of which was the loss of my sister in May. This was not unexpected. She battled her illness for over 3 years but when the time came it was so hard. I often told her she was my hero and the bravest  person I ever new! I feel so blessed to have my family and appreciate them now more then ever. Needless to say, up until recently I have not been in the crafting mood and not posting in the group. I had just finished coloring this sweet Tilda when all this happened so she's been sitting on a table I work on in my craft room. Last week I decided I was going to finish her but before I could do that I had to clean up the room. Well, I think it's reasonable to say that I now know that I'm a hoarder! OMG, I can't beleive all the "stuff" I had in there and duplicates to boot!!! I also decided to give my blog a new face as well as my Etsy shop. If you are reading this, thank you for coming by and as always your comments are appreciated and loved.
Hope you like my new card. I colored her with Ranger Distress Inks except for her skin, those I used copic markers. Think it came out pretty good for a first time. I used pretty flat back pearls, MS butterfly punch, double ruffle ribbon and a K&Co. demensional sticker with a pretty flower and the word DREAM. On the side of the card I used a Recollecions boarder punch. LOVE this punch, one of my faves! The paper is from my stash but I believe I bought it at Michaels. Well, thanks for taking the time to stop by and I plan on posting WAY MORE often in the future. Since it's friday, I want to wish you a safe and happy weekend!
See you later'

I really enjoyed coloring her, as I do the others but she's a little special to me because I was able to pick her up from 7 Kids Collage Fund  in person! I ordered ahead and let Tabitha (Tab,owner) know I was picking up and when I got there my order was ready. What a wonderful, funny lady she is. My husband was with me and she took us on a tour of the place. I thought I was in a dream, SOOO MANY GOODIES!!!! I think I'm going to do pick up from now on!

Little Tilda Sitting On A Log

Front Side Of Planner
One of these days I will get the inner workings on how to post on my blog down but until then it will be a work in progress!

I have finally been able to post another adorable Maggie stamp here. Though I love card making, I seem to have a thing for altered notebooks! Here's a planner that I made for my sister. It's sooo cute (which she'll love) and functional too! She's a busy lady and a wonderful sister that I don't see often because we live many miles apart. I hope you like it and as always, thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to take a peek and leave all those wonderful comments. They mean the world to me. Sooo uplifting!
